Great Britains top ranked alpine downhill skier, competing at continental and World Cup level

Roy is currently the best ranked, and highest achiever in the speed disciplines of Super G and Downhill of athletes from Great Britain. He is the only active male British athlete scoring European Cup points in more than one discipline. He has a North-American cup podium, and was ranked 4th in the North American cup overall in the discipline of downhill in the 2021-22 season. He competed in the 2023 World Championships in Courchevel France and secured results to be eligible to compete in the 23/24 World Cup tour in Downhill as well as Super G.

Roy holds numerous national junior and senior titles, has represented Great Britain in multiple World Junior championships and has been competing at the highest level in the sport for over 3 years. Roy represented Great Britain in the 2023 World Championships in France.

Downhill is considered the king of the disciplines in alpine skiing. It exerts the highest physical pressure, highest speed, furthest jumps, and the most danger. The spectacle of this event attracts a large fan base, and high television ratings. Roy has competed in all of the World Cup tour classics, including Val Gardena, Beaver Creek, Wengen and the most notorious Kitzbühel“Hahnenkamm” downhill, which is renowned as the hardest event in alpine skiing. The notoriety of this event supersedes the sport as a whole and attracts A-list celebrities and the most established brands from across the world.

Story

Born in Pforzheim Germany to German parents, Roy grew up in a ski enthusiastic household. Living in the Canadian mountain resort of Whistler, Roy could ski as soon as he could walk. The passion began early and from the age of twelve his target in life was to compete on the world cup tour. After being enrolled in a British school system and competing in some British events Roy was given citizenship to compete for Great Britain.

Pathway

World Cup experience: Much like Formula 1, the World Cup speed tour revisits the same venues every year. Naturally the more time spent on the tracks results in more confidence and better results. Top performers are in their 30s because of this.

Roy travels the world 300+ days a year, finding the best snow for training and competition conditions. This takes him to some of the most unique locations on the planet
